The Hummingbird Project

OK, in order for me to write about, advise for/against, or propogate the use of Twitter in any form to our clients needed me getting firsthand experience.  (Not that it’s not required for anything else that we consult about)

Twitter, on some level, is creating a lot of confusion among brand marketers (especially the markets that we currently serve) on whether to twit or not.  However, to cut a long story short, I started working on the twitter system, created a couple of accounts, even borrowed an account from a friend to observe trends and followers over a period of time.

First of all, I went ahead and bought a new tool called Hummingbird.  By far, I’ve seen this as one of the most impressive tools to automate a large part of your following/un-following.  There have been a number of other online services, that ask for your ID/Password, their designs look shoddy and you never know when they could end up hacking your account away.

So, in any case, for automating my following, I started to search for targeted followers – Industry specific, such as software, marketing, web design and even entrepreneurs.  The trick is to find the leaders in your chosen set of keywords and then following the people that they follow, or their followers.  In theory, the former will give you knowledge, latter will give you business.  For all practical purposes however, there is going to be a bit of a large overlap between these two as it’s considered common courtesy to return follow requests within a 24 hour period.

Nevertheless, my following has consistently soared, this tool has worked wonders for me, though I am currently manually stuck at managing my 2000 threshold.  I wish this tool would have some automated routines for doing that on its own.  A Review of hummingbird later, read all about it here.

Already use it?  Let me know how it worked out for you.  Want to ask me a question about twitter, comment in the box below, I will be glad to discuss.

In truth, immediately i didn’t understand the essence. But after re-reading all at once became clear.
